It was important from the very beginning to set the tone for the Josh.ai brand; helpful, approachable, and dependable – just like the family dog. The logo needed to be easily recognizable and unforgettable while reinforcing the qualities mentioned above.

The Josh.ai brand brings personality to home automation.

I worked with key stakeholders to define brand values and brought Josh to life through careful curation of imagery, patterns, and iconography.

I art directed, talent scouted, and worked with photographers and videographers to craft visual narratives of Josh in action. These images were used across digital, print, and broadcast media worldwide.

Framing privacy as a brand image

When given the unique opportunity to deploy Josh as the sole control system for a pilot program with IHG Hotels at the Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, I worked with multiple specialists spanning the hospitality industry, sales, engineering, and local vendors to create messaging that was both informative and subtle enough to respect the privacy of the hotel guests.

When guests scan the QR code on the physical printed plaque hanging from Josh Micro, they are presented with a co-branded web page which I designed with example voice commands.

 

Do things that don’t scale

Being in a startup means building a brand from scratch, which means putting in extra effort to shine light on the brand in ways that aren’t easy to keep up over time, but are infinitely helpful in establishing trust with customers in the beginning.

I designed a limited run of holographic Micro stickers that shipped with our Christmas orders to dealers who won a special edition red colored Micro.

One of the most popular brand-building exercises at Josh was to include stickers with each order and to gift wrap them with seasonal themes for holidays. Along with the other in-house designer, we designed several sets of collectible stickers that were included with almost every order at random, and we received direct feedback from dealers eager to complete their sticker collections.
